Deep Listening
Location 1: Bedroom
- In my brothers bedroom (where I am staying while I am in Texas) I heard only a few things. The room is very quiet so I heard only the hum of my computer fan, the vent on the ceiling blowing out air, and the sound of the ceiling fan slightly creaking. These are all sounds that I routinely block out when I am sitting in his room doing school work. They are just background noise, but are the only sounds I can hear and focus on now.
Location 2: Living Room
- My family's living room is significantly louder. I can hear one of my brothers muffled talking from his bedroom, the sound of the other brother watching television in his room, and the sound of my parents working and typing on their keyboards in their room. I can also hear the dogs wandering through the house and I hear their claws tapping on the tile floor.
Location 3: Backyard
- In my parents backyard it is surprisingly and unnervingly quiet. None of my parents neighbors or their dogs are outside, there don't seem to be any birds out. It's just peaceful and quiet. The sound of the wind blowing through the trees is the only sound I can really hear. The leaves in the trees are blowing against one another in the wind. The shed in the backyard has a loose door and it is lightly tapping as the wind blows.
